Houston’s Friends For Life Animal Rescue and Adoption Organization faced an uphill battle attempting to rein in the mischievous conduct of a spirited feline named Quilty. This feisty cat earned a reputation for repeatedly liberating fellow cats from their enclosures, despite the staff’s persistent efforts to curb this undesirable behavior. After several attempts, Quilty found himself sentenced to a period of solitary confinement, a situation he seems far from content with.
According to staff members, Quilty made a habit of orchestrating daring jailbreaks for cats housed in the senior room, displaying this behavior “repeatedly, multiple times per day.”
Further delving into Quilty’s past, shelter staff in Houston uncovered his checkered history: He used to facilitate the entry of his canine sibling into his former home. In a heartfelt yet humorous Facebook post, the staff shared:
Quilty will not be contained. And he has no shame. Quilty loves to let cats out of the senior room. Repeatedly. Several times a day. We have since Quilty-proofed the cat room, while he took a brief hiatus in the lobby. His roommates missed him while he was banished to the lobby. They enjoyed their nighttime escapades around the shelter.
The staff, however, did not miss the morning cat wrangling, so we’ll just have to agree to disagree there.
Predictably, the aforementioned post rapidly attained viral status, prompting social media users to rally behind the campaign for Quilty’s liberation, coalescing under the hashtag #FreeQuilty.
In the wake of an “online campaign,” Quilty faced a parole board review, an endeavor that proved unfruitful. Nevertheless, demonstrating a certain self-determination, he orchestrated his own “release” from confinement, only to find himself promptly returned to solitary quarters.
