Fans Now Know Why Robert Pattinson Isn’t Playing James Gunn’s DCU Batma

It turns out that ‘The Batman’ could have potentially played a part in James Gunn’s DC Universe after all.. but Matt Reeves said no.

When Gunn originally announced that The Batman would be its own thing to the side of the upcoming DC Universe, fans initially began to speculate and theorise how Reeves’ movie could have fit in – with most fans assuming that this was entirely Gunn’s decision.

In Reeves’ first The Batman instalment, iconic DC characters are shown in a much more realistic and grounded light – such as Colin Farrel’s Penguin, Paul Dano’s Riddler, and Zoe Kravits’ Selina Kyle aka Catwoman.

In Pattinson’s DC world, Gotham City and its inhabitants are depicted in a much more believable way – which may not have translated well into Gunn’s upcoming universe filled with superpowered heroes and villains.

Although moviegoers have yet to see DCU Kickstarter Superman: Legacy, it’s safe to assume that its pitched tone and voice were enough for Reeves to opt out and keep his “DC Universe” separate.

…but who’s to say that Gunn and Reeves’ DC Universes won’t crossover in the future?

The Batman Part II is set to release on October 3, 2025.
