Marvel Studios Announces New Black Panther Animated Series Eyes of Wakanda
Marvel Studios announced Eyes of Wakanda at the screening of MCU’s upcoming What If…? Season 2 Disney+ series on The Walt Disney Studios lot. A surprise sizzle reel was shown to the attendees by the head of streaming, television, and animation for Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, spotlighting the studio’s upcoming animated series. The occasion marked Eyes of Wakanda’s first-ever reveal, with a brief description of the Black Panther series reading, «Throughout Wakandan history, brave warriors have been tasked to travel the world retrieving dangerous vibranium artifacts. This is their story.»
Marvel Studios made the Eyes of Wakanda reveal alongside confirmation that the X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (previously titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year) animated series were still coming to Disney+. Both series will finally arrive in 2024 after the studio announced the projects over two years ago. Presently, Eyes of Wakanda’s connection to Ryan Coogler’s ongoing Black Panther MCU projects is unknown.
Marvel Studios What If…? Season 2 Avengers Lineup Revealed
An official poster for the What If…? Season 2, which included a screenshot from an Avengers-themed episode in the upcoming Disney+ series, spotlighted its own version of the eponymous team for its iteration. The poster features Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter in place of Steve Rogers’ Captain America, a nod to the first season featuring an episode about Agent Peggy Carter instead of Steve taking the super-soldier serum. Other members of the new Avengers team include Iron Man (Mick Wingert), Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Black Widow (Lake Bell).
What If…? Season 2 will continue the audience’s journey with The Watcher as the series explores the multiverse, questioning, revisiting, and twisting classic Marvel Cinematic moments. The upcoming season will also feature fan-favorite characters like Nebula, Hela, and Happy Hogan. The second season episodes are directed by Bryan Andrews (Episodes 2-9) and Stephan Franck (Episode 1) and written by AC Bradley (Episodes 3, 4, 5, 8), Matthew Chauncey (Episodes 1-3, 7, 9) and Ryan Little (Episodes 6, 8). Winderbaum, Bradley, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Bryan Andrews served as executive producers.
Marvel Studios has not yet set an official release date for Eyes of Wakanda.
