A Shocking Revelation: When Trust Is Broken
Paige cherished her career, but it meant spending time away from her husband, Victor, and their son Mason. Despite the challenges they faced, including the heartbreak of miscarriages, Paige and Victor managed to work through their marriage.
I accidentally overheard husband telling our son not to reveal what he had witnessed to me
Victor was always a pillar of support for Paige, especially during the difficult times. He reassured her that they would have a child when the time was right. If not, they would explore other options.
When Mason finally arrived, they were overjoyed. He became the center of their universe.
“He’s such a lucky kid,” Victor would say with pride. “We love him so much.”
As the chief executive of a brand, Paige traveled frequently. Although she missed being with her family, she knew Victor was the perfect father for Mason. He didn’t believe in babysitters or nannies.
“I’ll take care of our son during the day,” Victor would say. “Evenings are all yours.”
When Mason turned four and preschool approached, Paige made some changes in her career to be more present in her son’s life. But occasionally, she still had to travel for work.
After three days away, all Paige wanted was to return home and embrace her son. As she entered the house, the silence startled her. However, she heard her husband’s voice coming from upstairs.
Curiosity piqued, she tiptoed up the stairs to listen.
“Buddy, promise me something, okay?” Victor said.
“What is it?” Mason asked innocently.
“You must promise not to tell Mom what you saw,” Victor replied.
“But I don’t like keeping secrets,” Mason protested. “Why can’t I tell Mommy?”
“It’s not a secret, Mason,” Victor explained patiently. “But if we tell Mommy, it will make her sad. Do you want that, buddy?”
“No, I don’t,” Mason sighed reluctantly.
In shock, Paige descended the stairs slowly and called out for her family. “Mason! Victor! Mom’s home!”
“We’re in here!” Victor yelled from upstairs. Paige climbed the stairs once more and found her son playing with his toys, while Victor sat on his bed.
Curiosity got the better of her. “What’s going on?” she asked, trying to sound casual.
“Nothing, honey,” Victor said, winking. “Just a boys’ chat. Welcome home.”
Victor kissed Paige goodbye and left the room, leaving her with unanswered questions. She tried to keep her composure, but she couldn’t shake off the feeling that something wasn’t right. Her husband didn’t want their son to tell her something that would make her “sad.”
During her business trip, Paige had asked Victor to send her pictures of Mason. In one photo, she noticed a pair of expensive blue shoes that did not belong to them. She was taken aback but tried to rationalize it by thinking, “It must be the nanny’s shoes.”
When she finally returned home, she found her son sleeping alone. As she entered Mason’s room, he woke up, and she greeted him with a kiss.
Then, she heard sounds coming from their bedroom. “Why isn’t Dad downstairs?” she asked, her curiosity getting the best of her again.
“Mommy, don’t go in there. It’ll make you sad,” Mason warned her, trying to protect her.
But she couldn’t resist. She pushed open the bedroom door and was confronted with a heart-wrenching scene – her husband with another woman in their bed.
“Paige!” Victor stammered, clearly shocked. “It’s not what you think!”
“Do I look that stupid?” Paige retorted, her heart sinking as the woman locked herself in the bathroom.
“I have nothing else to say to you,” Paige said, her voice trembling with emotion.
“What did you expect, Paige?” Victor snapped bitterly.
“You’re never here. You’re always focused on Mason or work. What about me?” he accused.
“I need human connection too,” he continued. “And I have no idea what you’re up to during your frequent travels. I bet you have stories too.”
“No, Victor,” Paige responded with sincerity. “I’m not like you. My vows meant something to me.”
