A Sales Clerk Told My Wife She Wasn’t ‘Attractive Enough’ to Work at Their Store — I Returned a Few Days Later to Serve Up the Perfect Retribution
A store employee dared to reduce MY wife to tears with her harshness. She did this simply because my wife inquired about a job at the store she worked in. After learning what transpired, I was determined to rectify the wrong. My actions ensured the clerk would reconsider her approach to others in the future!
Here’s a thrilling story about delightful retribution! I’m Thomas, and Emma, my wife, has always had a flair for fashion. Her wardrobe is evidence of her exquisite style. Not that I’m biased or bragging, but Emma is truly knowledgeable about current fashion trends!
Actually, she’s the one who picks out my outfits. Not because I think it’s her responsibility, but because she enjoys it. And honestly, I look outstanding every time, so I’m not complaining!
For years, my wife hesitated to follow her true passion. She held various positions, such as a receptionist and even a nurse for a brief period, and she even tried her hand at art. Yet, she still hadn’t found her niche.
Recently, my dear wife decided to turn her passion for fashion (see what I did there?) into a career. She began actively looking for a job in retail, believing it would align well with her interests.
One day, she returned home very upset, and she recounted what had happened. Emma told me that she had been at the mall that afternoon when she noticed a popular lingerie store displaying a “Now Hiring” sign.
“I went right in to ask about it! But oh, was I in for a rude awakening,” she recounted. Her initial excitement faded as she approached the sales clerk and tried to initiate a conversation.
The impolite woman ignored my wife until she stood right in front of her! Feeling slightly disheartened but still eager, Emma inquired about the job application process. Instead, the clerk scrutinized her from head to toe with a sneer and dismissively said:
“Look, hun, you just don’t have the looks for this job. NO CHANCE. Don’t even bother, okay?”
Before she could calm down enough to tell me this, my lovely wife was in tears when she arrived home. She was deeply hurt by the mean-spirited comment. I had never seen my wife so profoundly affected before, and it broke my heart to see her that way.
I embraced her, trying to comfort her. “My dear, don’t let her words affect you. You’re beautiful and talented. You’re worth far more than her words,” I whispered gently. “But why would she say that?” Emma cried. “I just wanted to apply for a job. I didn’t deserve that.”
“She’s narrow-minded, my love,” I attempted to console my wife. Seeing her so upset made me IRATE! No one, and I mean NO ONE, should make my Emma feel that way, treat her so poorly, and escape unscathed!
And you know what? As my anger mounted, I decided it was time someone taught that cruel clerk a lesson in humility she would NEVER forget!
Over the next few days, I devised a plan. I contacted my friend Mike, who works in the fashion industry, for assistance. Mike was eager to help when he heard what happened.
“That’s appalling, man. Of course, I’ll help. Let’s turn the tables on her,” Mike said over the phone. A few days later, my plan went into action. I dressed sharply, with Emma’s help, and returned to the lingerie store.
I made sure the same sales clerk was on duty that day. I pretended to browse the store, waiting for an opportune moment. When the store was relatively empty, I approached the clerk with a pleasant smile.
“Hello, I’m looking to buy something special for my wife. Could you assist me in selecting a few items?” I asked. Her demeanor shifted immediately, sensing a potential significant sale. She eagerly showed me various items.
“Absolutely, sir! We have an excellent selection. What’s the occasion?” she asked, her voice now sugary sweet as we perused the store. “Just a surprise for my wife. I want to find her something truly special,” I replied, pretending to ponder.
“Fantastic! How about this piece? It’s one of our top sellers,” she suggested, presenting a delicate lace set. “Do you think this would suit her?” I inquired, examining the lingerie. “Oh, definitely! It’s one of our best sellers. Your wife will adore it,” she confirmed.
“Could you show me a few more options? I want to ensure I choose the perfect one,” I requested, keeping her engaged. As she presented more pieces, I made casual conversation to maintain her interest. “So, how long have you been working here?” I asked.
“About six months,” she answered. “It’s a great job if you fit the image.” I nodded, feigning interest. “Interesting. Do they hire often?”
“Only when absolutely necessary. They’re selective about who they hire,” she replied with a hint of arrogance.
After spending about thirty minutes with her, I told her I needed to step outside to call my wife for her opinion on one of the items. Instead of calling Emma, I called my friend Mike. He arrived quickly to play his role.
We re-entered the store together. My friend approached the sales clerk and introduced himself. “Hello,” Mike began, extending his hand. “I’m Mike Gladstone, a talent scout for a major fashion label.”
He complimented the store, suggesting it was a prime spot to discover new talent. “I’m on the lookout for someone with a distinctive look and a dynamic personality. Do you think you might have anyone like that here?”
The clerk’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Really? Well, I’ve been told I have the right look for this kind of work,” she replied, clearly thinking this was her moment to shine. Mike scrutinized her and shook his head.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t think you quite match what we’re looking for,” he responded. “We need someone who REALLY stands out, you understand?” The clerk looked absolutely deflated!
Before she could respond, Mike turned to me. “What about you?” he asked, pointing at me. “You have an interesting look. Have you ever considered modeling?” The clerk was stunned!
I grinned and replied, “No, but I do know someone who would be perfect for your campaign.” Without hesitation, I added, “My wife, Emma. She’s gorgeous, confident, and absolutely radiant inside and out.”
Mike nodded enthusiastically. “I’d LOVE to meet her. Let’s arrange an interview.” I faced the clerk, who was now pale and shaken. Staring directly into her eyes to ensure the message was clear, I said:
“It’s curious how deceptive appearances can be. Perhaps next time, YOU’LL think twice before judging someone based solely on their looks.”
As we exited, I could feel the clerk’s gaze on us. Emma later met with Mike. While she chose not to pursue modeling, the experience significantly boosted her confidence.
“So, how did it go?” I asked my wife when she returned from meeting with my friend. “It was AMAZING, actually! Mike was so kind and professional!” she beamed. “He said I had real potential,” she added, her face alight with joy.
“I told you, my dear! You have everything it takes,” I affirmed, embracing her tightly. That evening, Emma and I sat down for dinner, reflecting on the events. “I can’t believe you did all that for me,” she said, grasping my hand across the table.
“I’d do anything for you, my love. No one gets to make you feel less than you are,” I declared firmly.
A week later, we returned to the shopping center. This time, Emma walked with newfound poise. As we passed by the lingerie store, I glanced inside. The sales clerk was there, seemingly still reeling from the shock.
“Want to go in and browse?” I teased Emma. She laughed, shaking her head. “I’ve had enough of that store for a lifetime!” We continued on, hand in hand, realizing that sometimes, the best revenge isn’t just a clever scheme. It’s elevating the ones you love and helping them recognize their true value.
So, that’s my story. Sometimes, the most effective way to handle things is to expose someone’s errors in the most public and embarrassing manner possible. And trust me, the expression on that sales clerk’s face is something I’ll never forget!
