Woman Asks Neighbour For Permission To Pet Their Dog In A Note

Who can resist the charm of dogs?

For all the dog lovers out there, it’s a real struggle not to be drawn to every adorable dog we encounter. Personally, I can’t help but exclaim “doggy!” whenever one comes into sight. It has become an instinctive reaction by now, and many people can relate. Dogs hold a special power over us with their irresistible cuteness. However, as much as we’d love to shower them with affection, it’s crucial to respect their space and seek permission from their owners first. Sarah Elkins, like many of us, faced this dilemma when she saw a dog in a yard every day on her way to work. She longed to pet the dog but hesitated, unsure if it was appropriate without the owner’s consent.

“I started telling her she was a pretty girl, and soon she started sticking her nose through the fence and wagging her tail, but I never wanted to intrude on her space,” Elkins said.

But she finally reached a tipping point.

“When she saw me come out of my office door from her yard and greeted me at the gate with a full-body wag and a smile,” Elkins said, “I couldn’t take it anymore and ran back to the office to print the sign.”

She decided to seek permission and printed a sign, which she hung inside their gate to make sure they noticed it. The next day, she anxiously awaited their response, and to her delight, they replied! They left her a note saying, “OF COURSE! Her name is Sparrow, and she is a good girl.” Sarah was overjoyed by their positive response.

“I was a little nervous that the answer would be no, but it wasn’t,” Elkins said.

Sarah was fortunate that Sparrow’s owners turned out to be kind and understanding people. It’s heartwarming to see that there are still good people in the world.

“Even better, Sparrow was there with her tail wagging so fast it moved her whole body side to side.”

Now, Sparrow is greeted by Sarah every morning, and the affection between them is evident.

“Sometimes she will even put her paws on the fence to get a hug,” Elkins said.
