“Homeless Dog Finds Shelter Before Christmas, Gives Birth to Seven Adorable Puppies Amidst a Symbol of Hope and Faith.”

“Like Mary during Jesus’ nativity, this street dog sought refuge in a barn full of straw to give birth, but this time to seven puppies.”

In Palenque, Mexico, a picturesque nativity scene was displayed inside a small tent in the main square of the city. It has the typical range of festive figures posing in a serene silence, but recently, an unexpected visitor joined them: a pregnant stray dog.

Apparently, the sweet dog saw the nativity scene as a safe space and ended up using it as a refuge. It could take a break from the cold streets and provide illumination if needed. Local journalist Eric Guzmán observed this and found her nestled in the straw.

Upon closer inspection, Eric discovered that the dog had given birth to seven puppies. In the absence of other options, the dog seemed to have chosen the nativity scene as a safe and pleasant place to give birth to her offspring.

“She was surprised and happy to find that her puppies were in a safe place,” said Eric to The Dodo. “They were never wet or cold,” he continued. It’s worth mentioning that while Palenque usually has warm weather throughout the year, it starts getting cold in December, and the presence of dogs seeking shelter is quite common.

Eric began spreading the news about the dog and her puppies in the nativity scene, and since then, many people from Palenque have made the trip to see them with their own eyes, some bringing food and drinks. Even local officials got involved and agreed that the dog’s family would be allowed to stay for as long as they needed.

Beyond allusions to holiness, animal lovers from Dejando Huellitas SOS Palenque have also intervened to ensure that the dogs are cared for now and in the future, and have started looking for homes for them to live in.

For Eric, the nativity scene with the puppies inside is not a miracle, but he hopes it leaves a lasting legacy. “Hopefully, as citizens, we become more aware of stray dogs and adopt them instead of buying them,” the journalist stated. “We should love them regardless of their origin,” he concluded.
